Alan Wilkinson Chambers, MBE
Alan Wilkinson Chambers, MBE
Alan Wilkinson Chambers served in the Royal Marine Commandos for sixteen years. A qualified diver, parachutist, paramedic and ski survival instructor he has lived and worked around the globe in the most extreme climates - including deserts, jungles, mountains and the arctic.
In the spring of 2000, he led the first successful British team to walk unsupported from Canada to the Geographical North Pole. After immense challenges, including the evacuation of two team members, extreme frostbite and hunger, a dwindling fuel supply and the worst polar weather in a hundred years, his team managed to raise the Union Flag on top of the world at 23:16 hours 16th May 2000. More men have walked on the moon than have walked to the North Pole unsupported.
Since returning from the North Pole, Alan has left the Royal Marines to focus on delivering inspirational team management and leadership talks based on his experiences. His near impossible expedition demanded an extraordinary high level of commitment, focus, leadership and teamwork. His lessons in these areas alongside the values that brought success to the endeavour are directly applicable to the business world. Alan's talks can be delivered on their own or by working in conjunction with the Signify consultants to deliver highly practical sessions.
As well as working with Signify, Alan has also worked with a multi-disciplinary team to deliver leadership workshops to entrepreneurs at a London Business School Summer Programme. He is also working with 90 fulltime MBA students at the University of Bath on the importance of teamwork and effective leadership.
Alan has been awarded an MBE for determination and strong leadership and is also a fellow of the Royal Geographical Society England.
