| ROOTS VISION AND
PURPOSE STATEMENT |
 |
| The Roots Convention exists
to call Salvationists to biblical Christianity, radical
discipleship, contemporary communication of the gospel
and a passion for the lost, which are at the 'root' of
The Salvation Army and the Christian Church. |
| The Roots Convention
is therefore committed to and characterised by the following
core values: |
 |
The powerful, present,
indwelling reality of the Holy Spirit and His sanctification,
transforming us as disciples into the likeness of Jesus |
 |
A passion for
the lost, as the very heartbeat of God, demonstrated on
the cross and imparted by the Holy Spirit |
 |
Establishing,
through prayer, an intimate relationship with the God
who calls us to ask! |
 |
An aggressive
(muscular) Christianity, prepared to go to the people,
rather than wait for them to come to us |
 |
Reaching out
to the lost with a holistic gospel concerned about the
whole person body, mind and spirit |
 |
A particular
passion for the extremities of the human condition, in
its most degraded, impoverished and enslaved forms, as
a bias shown in Jesus' own ministry |
 |
A pragmatic
determination to communicate the gospel in the most appropriate
and culturally relevant way that can be found |
 |
A concern for
full employment in the salvation war and for the 'priesthood
of all believers', including the employment of men and
women as equals |
 |
Embracing a
sacrificial and dedicated lifestyle as an act of devotion
to God and the world |
 |
Searching for
excellence in our desire to do everything we do 'with
all our hearts, as working for the Lord, not for men'
(Colossians 3:23) |
